Week 8
Online classs (independent learning week)
Mr.Max chose our design for task 2 and also gave us feedback about our design
Week 9
Mr.Max taught us about ascender, decsender, baseline, x height, and the others, so that we can make the right font for task 3.

3.PROCESS WORK
We must make our own font using a4 graph paper than digitize it using adobe illustrator and font lab.First, we must make 9 sketches with 3 different markers with size over 3.0 mm. We only make 4 letters first (H, O, G, and B) for the sketches (uppercase and lowercase letter)
I did some research and found some reference for my typography font from Pinterest and also google.

I tried to sketch on the graphic paper. However, it was a little bit hard to make it neat. Therefore, i keep practicing using a lot of graphic papers.
Fig 3.2.1 Sketch Practice (Week 9, 18/11/2024)
After doing a lot of practice, these are the final outcome for my sketches.

Mr.Max chose 2 from 9 fonts and told me to choose one of it.These are 2 fonts that was approved by Mr.Max
Fig 3.2.10 Sketches chosen (Week 10, 25/11/2024)
After thinking about it, i decided to choose the first one and after that i started to do some research because i must create the other letters and also symbols ( " oledsnchtig ,.!# )
After practing for several times and after consulting with Mr.Max, this is my final sketch for the other letters and this has already approved by Mr.Max

Fig 3.2.12 Final Outcome of Font Sketch (Week 10, 25/11/2024)
I started to digitize my sketch using adobe illustrator.
-First, i must create the baseline, x-height ( 500 px x 500 px square), cap height, and also ascender height.
-I added my sketch to adobe illustrator, so that it can be easier for me to make the shape
Fig 3.2.12 Digitization Progress (Week 10, 29/11/2024)
-I started to make the shape using pathfinder and also pen tool, however i was quite struggling doing each letter, so i practice by making a lot of letters
Fig 3.2.13 Digitization Progress (Week 10, 29/11/2024)
-This was my first attempt. It looks so messy and also the size for each letter wasn't the same.
Fig 3.2.14 First Attempt of Digitization (Week 10, 29/11/2024)
-Therefore, i ask Mr.Max and he said that i must make sure that all letters have the same size and also i must add some shapes for some letter to make it same as the other. Moreover, i also must make the hashtag.
-This was my second attempt. I added some shape for letter g to make it more similar like the other letters and also i finally made the hashtag.

-This is my final outcome. I already adjusted all of the size and also make the word become one shape. This was already approved by Mr.Max

Fig 3.2.18 Final Outcome of AI Font JPEG (Week 11, 2/12/2024)
-After making the letters one by one, i downloaded font lab 8
-I follow all of the instructions that showed by Mr.Max and then i set the ascender height, baseline, etc
-After that i start to transfer my letter one by one by copying it to font lab and change the kerning to 0
-I did that for all of the letters, than after that i start to type ' oledsnchtig ,.!# ' and see how can i adjust the kerning. I used metrics to adjust the kerning one by one.
-This is the final look after i did some kerning and i asked Mr.Max about this.He said that this already looks okay.
Fig 3.2.19 Final Outcome of Kerning on FontLab (Week 13, 16/12/2024)
-I also make sure that this already okay by typing some words

-This is my metrics that shown the LSB and RSB that i used

-However, Mr.Max told me to use this tool to adjust the kerning for some letters because it still looks weird

-Here is the final outcome
Fig 3.2.23 Kerning Check (Week 13, 16/12/2024)
- Making poster using adobe illustrator
-First i set the page into a4
-I type a quote " old lights shine in the cold nights" using my font and then i arranged the design so that it looks eye-catching
-I made the quotes white and the background black because we can only use black and white for the poster design
-I also added numbersign and punctuation to the quotes
-Then i added the name of my font ( "Jejen") and also the year it was made
- This is the final poster

4.FEEDBACK
Week 9
General feedback : Mr.Max told us about what we should do
for task 3 and also explain to use about the right way to make each letter
Specific feedback : Mr.Max told us that we must make 9
sketches for next week ( 4 letters : H,O, G, B
Week 10
General feedback :
Mr.Max taught us how to make the ascender, cap height, x-height,
baseline and taught us about the exercise that we should make. Moreover, Mr.Max
also helped us to digitize our font using Adobe Illustrator
Specific feedback : Mr.Max chose 2 from 9 sketches and he
told me to make the other letters ( ‘ olednsnchtig ,.!#).After I made it, he
also already approved it
Week 11
General feedback : Mr.Max taught us some ways to make our
font using Adobe Illustrator and he also gave us some feedback and helped us
adjust the font
Specific feedback : Mr.Max said that my digitize font
already good, but I need to adjust some of the shape and also size so that all
can be the same.
Week 12
General feedback: Mr.Max taught us about how to use font lab
and also gave us final comment for the digitization
Specific feedback : Mr. Max already approved by digization
on adobe illustrator and helped me to adjust my font using font lab
5.REFLECTIONExperience
After doing task 3, i got a lot of new experience. Now i know how to make our own font using calligraphy and round markers.I also learnt that when we make our own font, we must create the baseline, x-height, ascender, and also cap height first.I learnt a lot of new tools from adobe illustrator and i learnt how to make the font using the tools. It was challenging, however i'm happy that i can finished it.Moreover, i also finally use a new software ( font lab ) and now i know how to use it so that our font can have the perfect kerning and we can download our own font and use it on other software.
Observations
After some observations, now i can make my own font using different types of writing styles.I also realized that baseline is very important when creating our own font. After i tried the new ssoftware ( font lab), i realized that the process of making a font is quite complicated because we must copy and paste all of the letters one by one than adjust the kerning using the instruction that was given.
Findings
For me, font is very important because different font can express the word in different ways.It is important to make sure that the baseline, x-height, ascender, cap height already correct to create a perfect font.Kerning is also important because if we adjust the font in a right way, it will be easier for us to reasd it and it doesn't create weird space.
6.FURTHER READING
Fig 6.1 Typographic Design Book (Week 13, 16/12/2024)
-There are a lot of design in typoghraphy.Twenty-six capitals,
twenty-six lowercase letters, ten numerals, punctuation, and other graphic elements must be integrated into a system that can be successfully combined into innumerable
words.
-Repeated curves, verticals,
horizontals, and serifs are combined to bring
variety and unity to typographic designs.
Fig 6.2 Serif (Week 13, 16/12/2024)
-A vast range of typefaces developed over the years is now available for contemporary use
-A lot of attempts has been made to categorize these typefaces, usually grouping them into several main categories.
-Indentifiable features of typeface
Fig 6.2 Serifs (Week 13, 16/12/2024)
-The ratio between the relative
width of the strokes of letterforms and their height
-Normal weight possesses a stroke width
of approximately 15 percent of its height, whereas bold is
20 percent and light is 10 percent
Fig 6.3 Weight (Week 13, 16/12/2024)
-Between the black
vertical strokes of the letterforms and the intervals of white
between them
-White interval larger = letters wider
Fig 6.4 Width (Week 13, 16/12/2024)
-Slant to the right but are structurally
the same as upright roman letters are referred to as
oblique
