INSTRUCTIONS
TASK
Brief
For final project, we have to create a VFX video with our partner. Before
making the video, we need to think about the idea and concept first by filling
out the slides provided by Mr. Martin, which include shot lists, storyboards,
synopses, and others. For this project, I am collaborating with Felice Jolin.
Week 9 (16/06/2025)
This week we must randomly chose a tarot card to determine the theme that we
will use for our video. It turns out we got a tarot card titled 'The Hanged
Man". After getting the theme, we started to create the synopsis and also
start looking for suitable VFX for our theme.

This week we have to try one of the VFX we want to use and edit it in class.
We need to see if the VFX will work or not. So we were given time to do the
shooting during class and then come back and continue editing the VFX. Here

Week 11(30/06/2025)
This week we completed all the content of the Google Slides before doing the
shooting.

Premiere pro color grading:
We decided to edit the color first so that it can match when we do mask the
video for VFX by importing our videos one by one into Premiere Pro to do
color grading first. We decided to use 2 adjustment layers for 2
different colors where the first one we chose to use blue to symbolize
sadness, stress, while for the second color we used brown to symbolize
happiness.

After effect VFX:
After finishing the color grading, the first thing to do is to create a
walking transition by masking from the beginning to the end so that the
transition video is smooth (just like what we did in the exercise).

After that, the second step is to mask the grabbing object from the
phone (umbrella). Here, masking also needs to be done. We need a clean
plate (background without people) to perform the masking. Below is the
process of doing the masking.

In the last part of our video, there are some videos that needs to
be masked again for the walking transition.

After creating the VFX, we return to Premiere Pro to make further
adjustments for the color. We also try to cut some parts of the
video from 2 minutes to about 1 minute.

We added some effects like cross dissolve to make the video
look better and more interesting.

After that, we add some text such as the title, credits, and
also some text as a moral message to make it clearer. We
ensure that the background is contrasting by making it darker
so that the text can be clearly seen and the message is
conveyed well.

For some clips, denoise effect were added to remove
background noise.

For the walking transition part where there is no
dialogue at all, we decided to add a voice-over to make
the video look more interesting and the voice-over can
also convey the message that we want to deliver.

We also added songs to make the situation more alive.
Because the first situation was sad and stressed, we
used an emotional song, while for the second song we
used a soft piano piece, and for the third song we
used a happy emotional song, as the situation had
changed to a happy one.

FEEDBACK
In the first consultation, Mr. Martin said everything was good. Then in the second consultation, Mr. Martin felt that the blue color was not very noticeable, and the text lacked contrast because the background wasn't dark even though the text was white. Mr. Martin also suggested deleting some parts to make the video shorter, and he recommended adding subtitles to make the video clearer.
REFLECTION
Experience
I gained a lot of new experiences and learned about how to create VFX and do masking in after effect. I also learned how to edit videos so that the message intended can be conveyed well. I am very happy to be in the same group with Felice and complete our final project.
Observation
For me, i observed that a film needs to have several components that can support it in becoming a good film, such as music, color, text, and also sound effects.
Findings
During the process of working on this final project assignment, I learned more about how to use After Effects and Premiere Pro, and I tried new features that I had never tried before. This greatly helped me in deepening my editing skills.
