-How effectively and efficiently a user can achieve their goals when interacting with a product
-It includes learnability, efficiency, memorability, and user satisfaction.

2.Applying usability principles
-Ensure that an application’s design aligns with the needs and habits of its intended users
-Include navigation, information architecture, and visual hierarchy

3.Conducting usability testing
-Focuses on monitoring how users engage with the application, collecting their feedback, and refining the design to address any issues discovered

4.Developing practical skills
-Developing proficiency in design tools, prototyping techniques, and user research methodologies

Importance of mobile in digital era

1.Ubiquity of smartphone
-Constant connectivity and on-the-go access to information

2.Mobile first approach
-Companies are adopting a mobile-first approach, prioritizing the mobile experience when developing their products and services to meet the needs of the customer

3.Shift in user behaviour
-People interact with mobile application every day for entertainment, task, messaging, etc

4.Competitive advantage
-Seamless and engaging mobile

Unique challenge of designing for mobile

1,Limited screen real estate
-Mobile device has smaller screen than desktop, therefore designer must think how to create a clean and uncluttered UI

2.Diverse device capablities
-Must be good in any kind and size of mobile devices

3.Contextual awareness
-Designers must consider factors like location, connectivity, and user mobility

Applying user centered design

1.Research about what user needs, paint points, and their behaviours
2.Designing the wireframe and creating prototype with feedback
3.Evaluation where this stage is to design, test, and refine ensures the final product meets user expectations

WEEK 2-THE ART OF USER CENTERED DESIGN

User Centered Design is a design philosophy that puts users at the forefront of the entire product development process. Designer needs to understand what user needs and all the stage of design from beginning to the end.

UCD, UI, and UX

UCD: is the needs of the user. This is the foundation or framework
UI: is the design and the aesthetic of the mobile application
UX: is the functionally of the application. Designer must ensure thatt the application can function well

Empathy
The ability to understand others and feel what they feel from their perspective

WEEK 3-USABILITY: DESIGNING PRODUCTS FOR USER SATISFACTIONS

Usability refers to effectiveness, efficiency, and success of a user in utilizing a product or design

Key principles of usability:
1.Consistency: Consistent design ensures a smooth, intuitive, and familiar user experience while reinforcing a strong, cohesive brand identity.
2.Simplicity: An intuitive interface with clear symbols and minimal steps makes tasks easy and navigation effortless.
3.Visibility: Clear visual cues, standout CTAs, and well-placed icons make app features easy to see, understand, and discover.
4.Feedback: Clear and effective feedback confirms user actions, guides them through tasks, and enhances understanding through text, visuals, sound, or haptics.
5.Error prevention: Error prevention minimizes frustration, boosts efficiency, and ensures greater accuracy for a smoother user experience.

INSTRUCTIONS

TASK

In this assignment, we have to choose a mobile application that still needs improvement, create a new company application with a different function, or make a better version of a government app. For this task, I chose to improve the Hotlink app because I believe its current design still lacks quality. My main focus is to add several new features and enhance the UI design by making it more consistent and user-friendly. Below is my proposal.

FEEDBACK

WEEK 1- We were asked to choose a company app. I chose Hotlink and explained that I want to add a membership points feature. Mr. Sylvain agreed with the idea.
WEEK 2- Mr.Slyvain said that my proposal is good, but I need to highlight the key points so that people can understand the content quickly without having to read long sentences.
WEEK 3- Since I already consulted with Mr. Sylvain about almost all the contents of my presentation last week, this week I asked him specifically about my problem statement and target audience. Mr. Sylvain said that my problem statement is not concise enough and should focus on one main issue that I want to highlight.
WEEK 4-No class
