INSTRUCTIONS
TASK
Week 1
Mr.Sylvain briefed us about the project and we must choose our own group for
this project. Here are my group members:
1.Jennifer Michelle Hiendrawan (0374682)/UI UX
2.Valenz Jycee Primadi/ Entertainment design
3.Gabriella Grace Christyanti/ Entertainment design
4.Tang Lilin/ Graphic Design
5.Zhou Yi/Graphic Design
6.Sun Jia Yue/ Immersive Design
7.Hu Yao Ping/ Immersive Design
Week 2
This week we must choose the topic for our group project. We choose period
poverty as the topic for our project and decided that Jycee will be the leader
for our group project
Week 3
This week we decided that our project will be focusing more about menstrual
stigma among youth. This week also we start to discuss about our project,
start to distribute the tasks for each member, and also start to make the
figjam.
Week 4
We decided who is our target group and we chose young adults female and male
for the targeted group, aged 18-25 years old.
- Female who are under 18 years old and over 25 years old
- Male who are under 18 years old and over 25 years old and never experience or relate to menstruation, also unaware of any intimate partner experiencing menstruation (no girlfriend, no sister, or no prior exposure to the topic).
After choosing the targeted group, we create the interview questions
and consulted with Dr.Wong at class. After a lot of consultations with
Dr.Wong, online and offline, we revised the questions, she said that we must
explain more about "stigma" because not everyone know what is stigma.
Dr.Wong also said that we must revised some of the questions because some of
it are too similar with the other questions. Therefore, we revised the
questions and here is the final questions for interview
Male
- How much do you think you know about menstruation?
- When someone talks about "menstruation", what do you feel? Do you think menstruation is a normal biological process for women?
- When did you first find out about periods and how did you find out?
- When was the last time you saw, heard, or read anything — such as a post, campaign, event, or advertisement — that talked about menstruation or periods? (This could be from social media, school, or any public discussion.)
- Have you ever come across any post, video, or advertisement on social media that discussed menstruation or menstrual health? If yes, could you describe what it was about and how it made you feel?
- In your current environment, do women feel comfortable admitting that they are on their period or talking about menstruation?
- Do you ever feel uncomfortable when your family member/friends get period in public?
- Do you think society has discrimination or prejudice against women because of menstruation?
- Do you think men should understand menstruation? Why or why not?
- If we were to design an activity or project to help young people understand menstrual health, what do you think would be the most effective form? (Such as lectures, interactive experiences, online content, etc.)
Female
- Can you explain to me what you know about periods?
- When was the first time you got your period?
- Can you tell me more about your experience relating to period?
- When you first got your period, who bought your sanitary pads?
- When was the last time you saw, heard, or read anything — such as a post, campaign, event, or advertisement — that talked about menstruation or periods? (This could be from social media, school, or any public discussion.) Have you ever come across any post, video, or advertisement on social media that discussed menstruation or menstrual health? If yes, could you describe what it was about and how it made you feel?
- Do you think menstruation is still considered a taboo (culturally forbidden) topic in your community or school? What is the reason?
- Have you ever experienced a situation related to your period in public that made you feel embarrassed or uncomfortable? (for example, leaking, having period cramps, or feeling awkward when you couldn’t join certain activities and people asked about it)?
- Do you ever do things to avoid others noticing your period by hiding sanitary napkins or menstrual products to prevent others from seeing them?
- What actions can we take to change how society views periods, helping people see them as a natural part of life rather than something to hide or feel embarrassed about?
- If we were to design an activity or project to help young people understand menstrual health, what do you think would be the most effective form? (Such as lectures, interactive experiences, online content, etc.)
After making the interview questions, we decided the task distribution for
the interview. I was assigned to interview females aged 18–25 years.
Week 5
This week i did the interview, did the transcript, and also made a summary and
findings based on the interview. Here are the results:
Fig 2.1 Interview transcript and summary
Fig 2.2 Interview findings
After did the interview, we discuss and created the affinity diagram by
combining the same findings (from both interview, female and male)

Fig 2.4 Affinity diagram male
Week 6
After watching Dr.Wong feedback to other group and also watch the lectures, i
understand that user persona is a fictional character that shares the same
goals and behaviours and it is based on our own research. So, me and my group
decided to revised the user persona and make 2 user persona only based on the
targeted group. Here is the final user persona
Fig 2.5 User persona
After creating the user persona, we also created the empathy map to better
understand what is the user need, etc. Here is the empathy map
Fig 2.6 Empathy map
This week after creating the user persona and the empathy map, i made the
problem statement and also how might we based on what the user needs, goals,
etc (based on persona)
Today we consult with Dr.Wong about the problem statement and she said that it
is already okay. She said that we need to choose the top 3 how might we that
will be used for our project. Therefore, we finally decided to use these 3.

Week 8
This week we created the user journey map. Here are the results
Fig 2.12 User Journey map
After read the user journey map and after look at all of the crazy 8s, this
week we decided which idea is the best to overcome the problems that the
user have and also which one is the most related to the how might we, user
journey map, and user persona. We did pollinng through whatsapp and after a
lot of discussions, finally we came up with the board game as our number 1
idea because we wanted to use a unique idea to provide education and
eliminate stigma surrounding menstruation among the younger generation in a
way that is engaging and fun, so that people would not feel bored while
playing it.
I suggested that the board game will have special cards (extra step, freeze
ray, switch place, etc) to make it more interesting and also to make the
game doesn't go too long
Week 9
This week, we present about what we already did from week 1 until week 8. We
present some of our ideas and decided to focus more on idea 1 which is board
game. Turns out Dr.Wong and Dr.Chong really like the idea and they said that
it is really interesting to combine education and game. Therefore, after the
presentation, we did a discussion and i said that we must make the lo-fi
prototype first using paper because from the lo-fi we can test first whether
our game is already good, what needs to be improve, etc
Week 10
This week after consultation, we started to make the lo-fi prototype. I was
responsible to make the questions and statements for the cards. Therefore, i
made 20 questions for question cards and 20 statements for myths vs factts.
Here are the pictures for our lo-fi prototype
Fig 2.13 Lo-fi prototype
Fig 2.14 Lo-fi prototype
Fig 2.15 Lo-fi prototype
This week we decided to test the prototype of our game with some participants
(especially male) because we want to know whether the questions already good
and not confusing, the gameplay duration is already okay, and we want to know
what to improve for this game.
Fig 2.16 Playtest
After doing the playtest, we received some feedback, one of it is to revised
the questions and statements because it sounds weird and it make the players
confused.
During the game, i also did some observation for the gameplay duration and
turns out it was too long. We played for 40 minutes above and i think we must
shorten the tiles because we will play the game at slc, so it is better for us
to shorten the duration, but still within a reasonable time limit and not too
short, the most important thing is that participants still receive proper
education and gain awareness about menstrual stigma.
This week also we finally revised all of the game mechanic and make the final
game design.
Here are the links to the myths vs facts statements and questions that i
already
made: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1K3qOEX8YY1WFWorNEokSPlKd17agYiBs/edit?usp=sharing&ouid=112244701245468846028&rtpof=true&sd=true
I was responsible for designing all of the questions and myths vs facts cards.
So here are the process

We also bought spin wheel from online and bought a lot of rewards for the
game, so that the participants later will get free gift after playing from our
booth
We also made survey for the pre-game and post-game, because we want to know
whether the knowledge has already improve or not

Week 13
This week we open our booth at slc. I decorated the booth with the other
members and here is the result.

We did some interview also with some of the participants to see whether if
their knowledge already improve or not. For the user testing, we used three
methods which is observation, survey and interview.
We open the booth for 3 days. I attended
Week 14
This week we focus on the data analysis, making and revising the presentation
slide, and also revising and adding some parts for figjam. We also did our
last practice before the final presentation

Feedback
For interview
Some questions are similar, please change the questions.
For presentation slide
- no need to write “task 1”
- write group project number
- it can be 2 paragraph (for executive summary)
- change the font empathy phase (user research findings first before empathy)
- no need use duration for the interview
- give a proper user journey map timeline
For figjam
Make it neat and categorize it based on each stage, which state is it? empathy define?
Reflection
Experience
I gained many valuable new experiences through this module. I came to better
understand that, as designers, we need to go through the design thinking
process before jumping directly into the final design without considering
users’ needs, goals, and motivations. Overall, this module was an enjoyable
experience, as it taught me how to collaborate effectively within a team to
complete what can be considered a long and complex process. I am glad that I
was able to sharpen my critical thinking skills through this module, and I
found the feedback provided by the client to be very beneficial. I was also
very happy that we successfully completed the board game and ran the booth
smoothly, and the client was satisfied with the final outcome.
Observation
I observed that, as designers, we should not skip any step in the design
thinking process, as each step is crucial for understanding what the client
wants and for evaluating whether the final design outcome aligns with the
established design thinking processes.
Findings
I gained many new insights and had the opportunity to get to know teammates
from different specializations through this module. I learned how to
encourage team members to communicate and engage in discussions so that
everyone could participate actively and take shared responsibility for the
group tasks.
